Another helmet update

Monday, August 22nd, 2005

I think that Ben had the fastest doctor’s appointment in all time today. He had an appointment with his neurologist today to look at his progress and decide how much longer he needed to wear the helmet. We arrived about 20 minutes early because I didn’t know how traffic would be and we were out the door 15 minutes later (5 minutes before we were even supposed to be there)! I could hardly believe it. Ben was a little annoyed with the hour long car ride to the doctor’s office, so I was expecting at least an hour of waiting to add to the fun!

So anyway, the net of it is that the doctor wants Ben to wear the helmet for one more month and then he is done! We aren’t sure that this is a good thing. You should see all the scratches on his helmet. It is done a good job of protecting him during his super-hero training. We’re not looking forward to the first few hundred bumps without his force field!

Ben walks…

Friday, August 5th, 2005

…sortof. Ben has been doing… step, step, fall… for quite some time now, and really he still is. But we had a milestone today. Ben took six steps from the couch to the hearth, and then he called it a day. So it is a proof of concept at this point, but progress nonetheless.

Ben Talks

Monday, August 1st, 2005

So for some time now, one of the things that Ben babbles all the time is something that sounds like, “a duck, a duck, a duck.” So Mo started showing him what a duck was. So now when he sees pictures of duck’s in his books, he says, “duck!” He is so darned smart!
