So we learned this weekend that Ben can hear. The proof came as the result of a suggestion from a co-worker. Yesterday, we took Mo’s headphones and placed them on her belly. Mo picked the first tune, Shake a Tail Feather from The Blues Brothers. The response was more than either one of us expected. Ben started kicking and moving like crazy! I’m not sure he liked that one. So we moved on to some other songs. Jewel’s rendition of Ave Maria and some of the other songs received a couple kicks. Then Mo wanted to try Shake a Tail Feather again to see if he would respond like he did the first time. We didn’t quite get the same response. This time, Mo’s belly got really firm from one side to the other. We think he actually turned completely around to put his back toward the music!!! We turned it off and within a couple minutes, he was turned back around.

We got more proof today when we went to the theater to see Troy. Through the previews he was kicking up a storm because of all the noise. I was starting to wonder if we should have brought a pillow for Mo’s belly so that Ben could sleep!

I know we are supposed to be enjoying the peace and quiet while it lasts, but I can’t wait to meet him.

Hermit week turned out to be a lot more busy than we had hoped, but we got a lot done. The baby registry is done, Ben’s room is painted (minus some touch-ups), and we installed a closet system so he will have plenty of room for toys and stuff. You can see some pictures of our progress here.

So the baby books said weeks ago that I should be able to hear the baby’s heartbeat by putting my ear on Mom’s belly. It didn’t work then, and it didn’t work today. I gave it a try for a couple minutes, until Ben kicked me in the face.
